Why donate?

TTCSZ (Teacher Training for Community Schools in Zambia) and T4Z (Teachers for Zambia) rely heavily on the generosity of donors, both locally and internationally, to make a lasting impact on education in Zambia.

Your donation, regardless of its size, will be utilized responsibly and effectively toward our teacher training initiatives. We believe in transparency and accountability, and if you provide us with your personal details, we will keep you informed and engaged throughout the process. You will receive regular updates on how your contribution is being utilized to empower teachers through training programs.

The Impact of your Donations

General donations are spent delivering 2 by 2-week training programmes to 25 community school teachers.

e.g. A donation of:

£5 buys a hot meal at lunchtime for 2 teachers

£10 buys basic training stationery for 5 teachers (writing pad, pen, pencil, eraser, folder, name tag)

£15 buys internet time for training 25 teachers to use the world wide web

£20 pays for photocopying training handouts for 25 teachers for 1 day

Solar Power for TTCSZ’s Resource Centre

In February 2024, Zambia’s president declared a drought. With no relief yet in sight, it has already created a food crisis and had a devastating impact on the country’s supply of power as it relies on hydroelectric generation.  At a local level the unpredictable electricity supply makes it very difficult for computer-based training in TTCSZ’s Resource Centre.

To resolve this problem, we are now fundraising to purchase solar panels, an inverter and a battery for the Library/Resource Centre.  An independent source of electricity will mean we can operate and plan with certainty. It will also greatly enhance the services we can offer to community schools and their teachers.

The cost will be approximately £1,750.

Study Bursaries for community school teachers

We fund bursaries for some community school teachers to attend a University in Zambia and gain a degree in Primary Education. Bursaries cover all university fees, books, internet and other study expenses. We are currently supporting 4 teachers to study Primary Education degrees. If you are interested in receiving further information please contact info@teachers4zambia.com.

T4Z is registered for Gift Aid with HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs). Gift Aid is a tax relief allowing T4Z to reclaim an extra 25% in tax on every eligible donation made by a UK taxpayer.

We greatly appreciate all donations and spend money responsibly.

O level Workshops

The Teaching Council of Zambia requires all teachers to have a Practising Certificate (Licence).  This also applies to unpaid volunteer teachers in community schools.  To get a certificate teachers need to have passed five O levels (exams completed at the end of secondary school).

To find out how TTCSZ could assist community school teachers to gain the 5 essential O levels we did a survey of school teachers attending our 2024 training programme.

Our research found that –

  • A majority (70%) of teachers sampled do not have the necessary 5 O levels.
  • Mathematics is the number one subject they want to revise and retake, followed by Science (Biology) and English.
  • 78% were extremely motivated to attend workshops, especially during school holidays.
  • 92% of teachers in the sample have a daily income of less than 50 Kwacha (£1.50). This has made resits too expensive. 84% said they had not retaken O-levels because of financial difficulties.

The cost providing study workshops and other re-sit expenses would be approximately £45 per teacher.

100% of any donations for either of the above will only be spent on the specific project you choose.
